Sinabung volcano in Indonesia erupts, spews lava: 7 killed

JAKARTA: Sinabung volcano of Indonesia erupted on Saturday, spewing clouds of molten ash into the sky. Seven people died and nearby areas comprising a few villages in the danger zone of the frequently erupting volcano have been scorched.

Those who died coming into contact with the avalanches of over-spilling lava of a seriers of the pyroclastic flow may have breached the security limits. They could not outrun the sudden flow. These were farmers working in the exclusion zone that is around 2-4 km radius, in the afternoon.

The flow reached 4500 m distance compared to the usual for this volcano at 2000 m - especially because frequent eruptions leave viscous, sticky lava and gas accumulated on the top and inside which is thrown out in great force the subsequent time and that leftover goes beyond the lava.

The volcano is located in the western province of North Sumatra.

Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency said the eruption occurred at 4:48 pm local time (9:48 am GMT).
